The Great Game, part 2

Dan had missed out on last weeks game, and through a comedy of errors and misfortunes,  he and I ended up being the only ones available this week.
Since the desert terrain was still in the table, Afghanistan was revisted.

Once again , the British are racing to relieve a fort before the Afghans can capture it.

The mounted infantry scout ahead.
Afghan and British cannon exchange fire.
The luck was with the Afghans,  who eventually shot down the whole British crew.
The mounted infantry made a dash for the fort.

A mountain teeming with Afghans bars the way for the infantry.
The horsemen make it to the fort and join the Gurkhas manning the walls.
The Afghan ponies charge the Highlander unit but are repulsed.
Hot on the heels of the horsemen an Afghan tribe attacks the fort.

Howard's "What Ho" cards mostly came up in my favor.

Afghans get inside the fort but are repulsed by counter attack .

Afghan fanatic swordsmen attack the Highlanders to a draw.

In an attempt to break the siege, the Gurkhas charge the Afghan cannon using an "Ace" card (double action).
They swept thr guncrew away, securing the fort.
The next card was a joker, and the following What Ho card was "Rain" which effectively ended all the long range skirmish fire.  The fort will remain Britain!
I decided that Gurkhas are "Gallant uphill", meaning they actually get the advantage attacking uphill, because attacking up hills is kinda their thing.

  1. I liked my one time flirtation with the Great Game, would have liked more for my veteran of the Boer Wars
