DH 1.5 : Saving a bridge too far

Our second game of Disposable Heroes.  This time a set up loosely based on Saving Private Ryan's end battle.

Dan was the US, defending the bridgehead.  He had a platoon, .30 and .50 cal MG team, 2 bazookas and 2 60mm mortars.
He was allowed 2 units on concealed ambush and one hidden HE charge.  Howard was coming late so he would be the US reinforcements: one M4 Sherman arriving on each joker card.
The Germans have a platoon, a Tiger,  Marder and 20mm flak halftrack.  The Tiger leads the way down the middle of the village, lining up on some infantry and sending an HE shell their way.
US mg's fire down the main street, killing some Germans and sending the rest scattering for the flanks.

One squad enters the inn and gets bogged down in a long firefight with US troops.
The flak 20 heads left but the US .50 cal catches it and kills the crew.
The Marder heads east, also suffering a crew casualty to .30 cal fire.
A squad heads up the east flank.
The valiant .30 cal team holds out for several turns, until an 88 shell finds them.
The. 50 cal team earned its money this game.
Captain Miller directs the US defense from the bridge.
US 60mm mortars fire from the Alamo.  They didn't hit anything.   Mortars have a good chance to pin in DH, but Dan was shooting at my command team, which has the highest morale.
The Marder lines up on some dug in Yanks in the Town Hall.
"Get out!!!!".....boom.
Howard's first Sherman arrives.  He decides to chance the foot bridge.  We came up with some simple rules in the spot to see if the bridge gave way.  Howard rolled poorly, and it did.

Howard's second Sherman arrived.  Eagee to get into the fight, he raced it across the stone bridge.

A little to close...a panzerfaust rips into it's side, setting off ammo spectacularly.
The lead German squad gets within sight of the objective buildings, but finds they are full of Yanks.

The Western squad is finally routed, and the time runs out.  Ami jabos arrive and put an end to the German offensive.

All in all an enjoyable game.   A bit too ambitious  for our time allowance I now realize, but I had stuff I wanted to see on the table😁.
In the end it was a bridge too far.

Disposable Heroes 1.5

Played some Disposable Heroes WW2 this week.  A US armored platoon attempts to dislodge a German delaying force from a crossroads.

Dan's new P4 gets the first shot off.  It only blows the Sherman track but the crew bails.
I got caught up in the action and forgot photos but the US eventually grabbed 2 of the 3 objectives by the end of the game.
I call it DH 1.5 as it is the original rules with home rules to simplify and speed up play.

Day at the museum

No game this week, but got to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a look at the arms and armor exhibit.  Seen this several times but it doesn't get old (even though it is old).  There was a temporary exhibit of some Japanese armor on loan at this time.

A Gentleman's War: Beemis Heights AWI

Played a game of Howard's "A Gentleman's War " AWI, using the Beemis Heights scenario modified for our figures from the Black Powder Rebellion book.
I played the Royal forces and Howard was the southern US flank and Dan was the Western flank attack.
US objectives are the 2 redoubts.

Howard gets his Americans into the southern redoubt.

In an attempt to keep Dan's forces away from the second redoubt, i pushed my Hessian Grenadiers out and tried to break up the rebel advance.  It was not to be, as they were charged from behind and my general was lost.  A total victory for the rebel forces.  The world turned upside down!

Some complete fake news from the Yankee perspective:
