Another go at Border Reivers, testing the balance of a pair of Heroes vs Average soldiers.
The hero of clan Armstrong, Bold Bukley and his companion Willey Willy.Buckley is a "Hero" with muscle and wounds of 5. The other attributes not so much. His Boons are that he is "frightening ", "bold" and a natural Spearman (+1 d6). His Bane is his dependant family, used as bait in this scenario.
His companion Willy is 4 in combat, 3 in other stats. He is a "child of fortune" that may reroll 2 dice, but boastful, suffering double penalties from taunts.
As said before, Clan Graham has set a trap for Buckley, by attacking one of his favorite "cousins". As they arrive at the homestead Grahams burst from the woods.
Buckley turns to drive off the rear attack, leaving Willy to hold the line.
Willy cuts down 2 more Grahams. Things are going solidly to the Armstrongs.
The 2 Grahams attacking Willy draw a "Huh" card. This should be a no contest. But wait! HOWARD rolls two unanswered 1s. Willy is stabbed though the heart! One Graham shouts "don't kill him- we can ransom him!" The other jabs his blade through Willy's cardiac apparatus, then turns to the other Graham and says "huh?"
Seeing his companion fall sends Buckley into a rage. He "frightens" away one Graham, then cruelly kills the other, although he ends up unhorsed, losing 2 wounds.
So the Armstrongs prevailed, but lost one companion.
